Recent decisions include 650 homes in Alwalton despite objections, Cygnet Bridge cost increase, and Wendy’s drive-thru approval in Cygnet Park.
Asset Earning Power Group made the proposal. The land is near Peterborough, in Alwalton. Peterborough City Council approved it January 13. The appeals committee voted to overturn the refusal. Four councillors asked for a review. This meant the council reconsidered everything.
Residents and others opposed the decision. They wanted the committee to uphold the refusal. Another plan for 850 homes was okayed last October. The speedway track closed in 2023.
Peterborough City Council published other planning news. These happened around Christmas and January. One involved an adult gaming center. An MP, Andrew Pakes, opposed expanding it.
The center is on Bridge Street. Ticketgrange Limited owns New Horizon Amusements. They wanted to expand into an empty unit next door. The council refused a previous attempt last year. It had issues with the storefront design.
Pakes also opposed that earlier plan. He said stronger action is needed for the city center. He’s concerned about the store’s location. It’s near a war memorial and job center. A decision is still pending.
A plan to build a pedestrian bridge got approved. It will cross the River Nene. The bridge will connect Fletton Quays to the Embankment. They will call it Cygnet Bridge.
The initial cost was £6.3 million. The council asked for £2 million more. Now the total cost is £8.3 million. The bridge will provide a route for walkers and cyclists. It avoids the busy road. It will connect the south to the new university. The opening is delayed to next year.
Another plan approved a drive-thru for Wendy’s. It will go around a Wendy’s restaurant. This is at Cygnet Park, Hampton. The Wendy’s is not open yet. This is the second Wendy’s for Peterborough. The first opened last October. It’s on Bourges View business park. The Cygnet Park hours are mostly 7 AM to 10 PM.
The Nene Park Trust wants to transform Lynch Farm. Lynch Farm is near Ferry Meadows. They plan a dog field and school camping. Lynch Farm has a farmhouse and green space. A riding school used the site for 50 years. The trust took over in August 2023. They want to bring the grounds back to life.
The CEO, Matthew Bradbury, discussed public feedback. The dog field will have a dog limit. He is excited to bring the site back. This application is phase one of the plan.
