Cambridge residents are frustrated as Coldhams Lane remains closed for a month, complicating commutes and causing delays for both locals and visitors.
The closure is part of ongoing work in Cherry Hinton. Locals and commuters say it’s making their journeys harder.
Stuart Tresadern, a local, called the roadworks “disastrous.” He mentioned that the community has faced months of disruptions. Temporary lights and digging through water pipes have added to the chaos.
Stuart noted that the work hasn’t been well-coordinated. Coldhams Lane has been dug up multiple times in the same spots. This has caused more delays for everyone.
Coldhams Lane will stay closed until February 23. UK Power Networks is laying electricity cables. This closure has frustrated many residents.
Vicky, a pet groomer, shared her struggles. She said her commute is now longer, costing her more than just fuel. Sitting in traffic means she can groom fewer dogs each day.
Vicky added that the timing of the roadworks could have been better. If they had finished before the Mill Road Bridge work, it might have been less disruptive.
David Mclean, a local cyclist, also expressed frustration. He found it odd that the road had to close multiple times. However, he said it hasn’t affected him too much personally.
David enjoys the quieter road. He and his family usually avoid driving into town unless necessary. They prefer cycling, walking, or taking the bus, which remain unaffected by the closure.
A spokesperson for UK Power Networks apologized for the inconvenience. They assured residents that the work is essential for the city’s future expansion. The Coldhams Lane project is expected to finish by February 23.
