Cambridgeshire: Villagers are upset about potholes on West Wickham Road. They say these potholes have caused hundreds of pounds in vehicle damage.

This road connects nearby villages, but it has been a problem for years. Drivers report needing repairs after hitting the potholes. Water is seeping through the road, causing erosion.

Jan Lupton, a local resident, mentioned that the pothole issues have worsened over the years. She believes the repairs are not enough and suggests a concrete gutter to help manage water runoff.

Jan also pointed out that heavy vehicles contribute to the pothole problem. She thinks a long-term solution is needed for roads that see a lot of agricultural traffic.

Many locals say the potholes are filled in, but they reopen just days later. Alex Schuilenburg, chair of the parish council, shared that he has spent hundreds on repairs due to these potholes.

He described a situation where he had to navigate the potholes slowly, risking damage to his vehicle. Alex believes the road should have been closed for safety.

He noted that while the council inspects the road regularly, they are not making necessary repairs. A local man expressed frustration over the ongoing issue, saying it has been a problem for years.

He feels that different agencies are passing the responsibility around, which delays repairs. Anglian Water and DEFRA confirmed they are not responsible for the road.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire County Council acknowledged the issue. They found a broken pipe under the road and are planning a long-term repair that will require closing the road.

In the meantime, they are inspecting the road weekly and making temporary fixes. They apologize for the inconvenience caused to residents.
