Cambridge: A local wine shop just hit the big time! Cambridge Wine Merchants has been named one of the top wine retailers in the UK. How cool is that?

This shop is right in the city center, with spots on Bridge Street, King’s Parade, and Cherry Hinton Road. They’ve got a fantastic selection of wines from all over the world.

Not only did they snag a spot in the top one percent, but they also earned the title of “East Anglian standout.” That’s a big deal! Harper’s, the folks behind the ranking, praised their wide selection and the hard work of co-owner Hal Wilson.

Hal and his team work with 34 breweries, 130 distilleries, and 800 wineries. They focus on quality and sustainability, which is super important these days.

Hal shared that being in the top 50 is great, but being in the top 10 is even better. He’s proud of their hard work and the variety they offer. They have over 700 wineries to choose from!

He also highlighted some local favorites, like Gutter and Stars, the first winery in Cambridge. Plus, he gave a shout-out to Crouch Valley Vineyard and Flint Vineyard in Essex and Suffolk.

Hal isn’t just about selling wine; he’s also a champion for the industry. He’s been lobbying for better wine duty laws and was even named one of the top 10 most influential people in food and drink. That’s impressive!

Now, they’re gearing up for another big event. In just two weeks, they’ll be at the Dorchester Hotel in London, hoping to win the title of large independent retailer of the year. Fingers crossed for them!
