Cambridge: New drone photos show how the Cambridge South station is coming along. The project got the green light from the Secretary of State for Transport in December 2022.

Construction kicked off in January 2023, starting with a works compound under the Addenbrooke’s Road bridge. Network Rail says this station will create job opportunities and improve transport options.

The latest update came in January 2025, showing a bird’s-eye view of the station. Work continues inside, focusing on electrical and mechanical systems.

During the Christmas break, they surfaced the new island platform and installed a secondary footbridge. This station will connect the Cambridge Biomedical Campus to various UK destinations, including Stansted Airport and Birmingham International Airport.

It will also support future East West Rail services, with trains heading to Bedford and beyond. The total cost for the station and its infrastructure is around £211 million.

Cambridge South station is set to open later this year. For more details, check out the Network Rail website.
