Cambridge: Historic streetlamps went missing from the city center before Christmas. They were reported stolen between September and October.

Recently, police found two of these unique lamps in Hertfordshire. They were part of a larger collection of nearly 300 lamps recovered during a raid on January 11.

Many of the items are streetlamps, while others are decorative fittings likely from homes. Officers are working to return these items to their rightful owners.

PC Thomas Woollard from the North Herts Neighbourhood Policing Team said an arrest has been made. They aim to reunite as many items as possible with their owners.

Most of the recovered items are believed to be from Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Bedfordshire, missing in the last six months. Investigations are ongoing.

The Cambridge streetlamps were designed by architect Sir Albert Edward Richardson in the 1950s. Their distinctive brown posts and tubular lights make them easily recognizable.

The stolen lamps were taken from locations like Jesus Lane, Trumpington Street, and St John’s Street.
