Chester: A 61-year-old man is protesting after being banned from his local Wetherspoons. Brian Gorman, from Wigan, used to visit the Square Bottle pub often. He claims he was barred after a misunderstanding about last orders.

On January 11, Brian says staff told customers to leave by 1:15 AM. He thought last call was usually at 1 AM on Saturdays. He politely questioned the staff member but felt the response was aggressive.

Brian recalls a doorman from across the street checking on him. They laughed about the situation, but later, he found himself banned. He returned to the pub several times without issues until the ban was enforced on January 15.

A Wetherspoons spokesperson stated that Brian recorded staff without permission, which contributed to the ban. Brian expressed confusion, saying he’s always friendly and has never been banned before.

In response, he started a Facebook group called ‘Justice for Brian Gorman’ and protested outside the pub. He sent handwritten appeals for an explanation but received no satisfactory response.

Wetherspoons maintains that Brian’s behavior was unacceptable and that he filmed employees without consent. They emphasize a zero-tolerance policy for any misconduct towards staff.
