On matchdays in Peterborough, about 10% of parking tickets are issued. This trend raises questions about parking enforcement during football games.
Peterborough: Did you know that on matchdays, about 10% of parking tickets are given out? That’s what the city council found out.
Since the season started on August 10, 2024, there have been 10,716 parking tickets issued. Out of these, 1,043 were given on home matchdays, with 168 during the games.
This issue came up in a council meeting in January. They discussed how many parking officers are on duty during matches.
Councillor Alison Jones mentioned plans to add more parking officers in the budget. She said they patrol residential areas, car parks, and pay-and-display spots.
She also noted that they want to increase the enforcement team and have extra staff for big events like football matches.
Interestingly, the number of parking officers on matchdays dropped from four to just two in December and January.
There were even four matches this season where no parking tickets were issued at all. This includes the opening game against Huddersfield and the Boxing Day match against Mansfield.
The highest number of tickets issued on a matchday was 132, which happened on January 14 during the game against Walsall.
