A 24-year-old man, Gledis Mousaku, has been jailed for six months after admitting to growing 95 cannabis plants above a closed takeaway in Crewe.
He showed up in Chester Crown Court on January 31. He admitted he grew cannabis there, and the judge gave him a six-month prison sentence. He must pay a victim fee of £154, too. The drugs and tools got destroyed.
The police got information and acted on it, searching an address with the warrant. It was a closed takeaway, with a flat upstairs where Mousaku lived above the empty shop.
He looked after 95 cannabis plants, which were upstairs with lights and gear. The officers found everything there. Mousaku said he grew cannabis but denied changing the flat. He also denied messing with the electricity. Police charged him with producing cannabis.
Some signs show cannabis cultivation activity. Watch for a sweet, strong smell, as growing equipment might go into the place. Windows are often covered or blocked. You might see constant lights, day and night.
There can be high heat and condensation in the place. A constant fan buzz may exist as well. Offenders often steal electricity by digging underground. Then, they connect cables to streetlights, for example.
To report drug activity, call Cheshire Police at 101. You can visit their website or call Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111. You can remain anonymous with Crimestoppers.
