Huntingdon: Lloyds Banking Group is closing over 100 branches in the next year. This includes 61 Lloyds, 61 Halifax, and 14 Bank of Scotland locations.

The closures are happening because more people are using mobile banking instead of visiting branches. Lloyds recently announced that customers can use any of their brands for in-person banking.

All employees at the closing branches will be offered jobs at other locations. In Cambridgeshire, the Halifax branch on High Street in Huntingdon will close on May 15, 2025.

A spokesperson mentioned that over 20 million customers are using their apps for banking. Customers can also use telephone banking or visit any branch of Lloyds, Halifax, or Bank of Scotland.

Since February 2022, 1,784 branches have closed or announced closures. This averages about 50 closures each month. At least 289 branches will close this year, with more closures expected next year.

The LINK initiative was created to help vulnerable customers and small businesses during this transition to cashless banking. When a community loses its local bank, banking hubs or free ATMs will be set up to help.
