A Cambridgeshire bus driver acted quickly to save a man suffering a suspected heart attack, showcasing his first aid skills and earning a prestigious award.
Cambridgeshire: A bus driver jumped into action to help a passenger in distress. Paul McCarthy may have saved a man who was having a suspected heart attack.
Paul was on a training route with his mentor, Scott Gibson. A man knocked on their bus door, complaining of heart pain, then suddenly collapsed.
With years of first aid experience, Paul quickly moved the man into the recovery position. When the man stopped breathing, Paul performed CPR until emergency services arrived.
After the incident, Paul calmly continued his route. He later received the Mick Capper Award for his heroic actions, beating out other talented drivers in the region.
Darren Roe, managing director of Stagecoach East, praised Paul’s quick thinking and professionalism. He highlighted the strong community spirit among their staff.
All Stagecoach East employees can win a monthly Star Award, with one exceptional candidate receiving the Mick Capper Award, named after a beloved driver who passed away from Covid.
