The government has revealed new timelines for hospital projects, promising transparency and funding to improve healthcare facilities in Cambridgeshire and beyond
During a chat with MPs, he promised that all new hospital units will be delivered. He’s really focused on making sure the funding is solid so that these projects can actually happen.
Hinchingbrooke Hospital and the Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital are on the list for redevelopment. Streeting emphasized that the government wants to give patients a clear and realistic timeline they can trust.
He mentioned that this Labour Government is not just rebuilding hospitals but also working to rebuild trust in politics. Some hospitals made from Raac concrete are not included in this review but will be rebuilt quickly for safety.
Streeting also noted that hospitals already under construction are moving forward without any delays. They’ve secured a five-year investment plan, with a whopping £15 billion backing it up.
This funding is in addition to the £1 billion announced in the budget to tackle Raac issues and maintenance across the NHS. Plus, there’s another £1.5 billion for new surgical hubs and diagnostic equipment.
Both Hinchingbrooke and the Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital are part of the first wave of projects. Construction is set to kick off between 2025 and 2030.
Streeting listed other hospitals in this first wave, including Leighton Hospital and West Suffolk Hospital. It’s a big step forward for healthcare in the region, and people are hopeful for the changes ahead.
