St Neots: A van driver named Christopher Ratcliffe had a wild night. He was so drunk that he didn’t even know he crashed into a garden wall. Police found him slumped over the steering wheel with empty bottles of booze around him.

This all went down after midnight on December 19. Neighbors reported the van reversing into a wall in The Brickhills. When officers arrived, Ratcliffe claimed he was just parked in a layby.

He blew a breath test of 148 microgrammes, which is over four times the legal limit. He didn’t provide a sample when taken into custody.

At court, he got a 12-week prison sentence, but it’s suspended for a year. He also can’t drive for three years and has to go through a year-long alcohol treatment program.

PC Jordan Pike, who looked into the case, said Ratcliffe was extremely intoxicated. He didn’t even realize what had happened. It turns out he had a previous drink driving charge but didn’t show up in court.

If you suspect someone is driving under the influence, you can report it to the Cambridgeshire Constabulary hotline. Stay safe out there!
