Wilburton: A tragic accident happened when Levi Baxter, 21, lost control of his car. He was driving a black Skoda Fabia on October 25. The crash occurred around 9:50 AM.

His passenger, 19-year-old Ben Bland, suffered severe injuries. Ben was from Cambridge and was rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Sadly, he passed away two days later.

Baxter, who had minor injuries, tried to mislead the police. He claimed he was just a passenger and that the real driver had fled. But the police found the car keys on him, raising suspicions.

Upon further investigation, they discovered the Skoda had no insurance. Plus, Baxter was already disqualified from driving. In the hospital, he admitted to driving and blamed mud on the road for the crash.

On January 14, Baxter was sentenced to four years and six months in prison. He pleaded guilty to causing death while disqualified. He also faced charges for driving uninsured and unlicensed.

Detective Sergeant Shona Birkby commented on the case. She expressed hope that the sentence would send a strong message about dangerous driving in Cambridgeshire. The community continues to support Ben’s family during this difficult time.
