Ely: A 23-year-old man was caught drink driving with an open bottle of wine. Cameron Mayes was filling up his white Ford Fiesta at a gas station when he pulled up next to a police car.

Officers noticed a smell of cannabis and became suspicious. They approached Mayes and saw the open wine bottle in his car. He admitted to drinking and agreed to a breath test, which he failed.

At the police station, his breath test showed 49 micrograms of alcohol, over the legal limit of 35. Mayes had a previous driving ban from January 2022.

He pleaded guilty in court and was fined £200. He’s now banned from driving for three years. Police emphasized the dangers of drink driving and encouraged reporting suspected offenders.
