A convicted murderer has been sentenced for attacking a prison officer, leaving him with a serious brain injury after a sudden and violent confrontation.
He was supposed to return right after, but about 20 minutes later, the officer found him in the gym. When the officer asked him to go back, Crowley refused. Instead of listening, he suddenly punched the officer, causing him to fall and hit his head.
Other officers quickly intervened, using PAVA spray to subdue Crowley. The injured officer was rushed to Peterborough City Hospital and later transferred to Addenbrookes in Cambridge. Doctors discovered he had a bleed on his brain, leading to surgery and a three-month hospital stay.
Crowley, who previously lived in Duston, Northampton, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm without intent. He received an extra 32 months in prison, to be served after his current sentence.
This isn’t Crowley’s first crime. Back in February 2019, he was part of a gang that stabbed a man to death in Northampton, earning him a minimum 34-year sentence.
DC Emma Purser commented on the incident, praising the officer’s professionalism. She noted that the attack was completely unprovoked and had lasting effects on the victim. Without the quick actions of his colleagues, the situation could have been much worse.
Prison officers face tough challenges daily, and attacks like this are unacceptable. It’s good to see Crowley held accountable for his actions.
