Chinese communities in Cambridgeshire celebrated Lunar New Year with vibrant events, featuring music, dance, and delicious food, welcoming the Year of the Snake.
Cambridge: Today is Chinese New Year, marking the start of the Year of the Snake. Celebrations kicked off early in Cambridgeshire.
The Chinese Students and Scholars Association hosted a lively event at the Cambridge Corn Exchange. It featured music and dance performances under the theme “Bridges of Light, A New Year’s Delight.”
Guests enjoyed performances from the Cambridge Chinese Orchestra and various dances, including a traditional sleeve dance and a lion dance. Ruohan Zhang, the association’s president, welcomed everyone with a speech.
Meanwhile, the Chinese community in Peterborough celebrated on January 25. Ran Wei performed a classical Chinese dance, and there were Tai Chi demonstrations from local groups.
The Chinese Women in Peterborough group wrapped up the performances with a sing-along of “Tomorrow will be better.” Attendees also enjoyed food and tried their hand at calligraphy.
Faustina Yang, the founder of the Peterborough Chinese Community, thanked volunteers for their hard work in making the event a success. Their support was crucial for the celebration.
