A bridge in Stonea, Cambridgeshire, will get cameras after being hit often. The Ely bridge, however, won’t receive similar safety measures despite its record.
Cambridgeshire: A bridge in Stonea is getting a camera system this year. It’s often hit by lorries. Last year, it was the second-most struck bridge in Britain, with 17 hits recorded.
Before that, from 2021 to 2022, it was the most hit, with 33 strikes. The bridge in Ely took the top spot recently, with 18 strikes noted in the last year.
Interestingly, the Ely bridge won’t get cameras. A spokesperson from Cambridgeshire County Council said local traffic can still use it, but larger vehicles should use the Ely Bypass instead.
They mentioned that there are clear height restriction signs for drivers. The Stonea bridge cameras will monitor the area 24/7 and are expected to be installed this spring.
