Two men were arrested in Cambridgeshire for hare coursing and violent disorder, with police seizing vehicles and equipment during the investigation.
The police started looking into this after getting complaints about hare coursing, criminal damage, and dangerous driving. These incidents happened in several places, including Fordham, Ely, and Chatteris. They are asking the public for help to identify those involved.
Cambridgeshire Police got help from forces in Norfolk, Lincolnshire, and Essex. They also worked with the National Rural Crime Unit and the National Wildlife Crime Unit. Officers executed several arrest warrants on Friday, January 31.
An 18-year-old from Spalding and a 26-year-old from Grantham were arrested. They are suspected of violent disorder and attending a hare coursing event. They are currently in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station in Peterborough. Police seized four vehicles and hare coursing equipment.
Chief Constable Nick Dean said the events had a big impact on the community. He promised to investigate and bring those responsible to justice. A dedicated team is reviewing information that has come in since the weekend.
Superintendent Andrew Huddleston from the National Rural Crime Unit called the events disgraceful. He emphasized that such behavior will not be tolerated. He hopes the arrests send a clear message to anyone involved in hare coursing.
