Essex junction gains £15M, speeding up A127 A130 revamp. The upgrade will ease traffic, and boost south Essex growth.
The council can now hire builders to start the road work soon. Proposed changes include a new road linking the A130 southbound to a new traffic light junction. Traffic must turn right at the A1245. Wider slip roads and longer slip lanes are also planned for the roundabout and on both A127 on-slip roads.
The Rayleigh Spur Roundabout will also see improvements. New traffic lights will be added on two arms of the junction. The roundabout will gain an extra lane. Another traffic lane is coming, running southbound toward Rayleigh Spur. A pedestrian bridge is also planned for cyclists to cross the A127.
The Fairglen Interchange causes delays that add to costs for people and businesses, especially during peak hours. New funding for improvements is welcome and should ease traffic movement later. The improvements will also help growth in south Essex.
The upgrade is vital for this area as it unlocks future growth in south Essex and eases traffic for regular travelers. Walking and cycling access will improve too. The Fairglen Interchange scheme costs £59.099 million total. Essex County Council pays the remaining costs and covers any cost overruns.
